iGCSE Combined Science
Course Overview
We cover the new 9-1 syllabus!
We cover Cambridge CIE syllabus Ref 0653, for exams taken 2025 onwards.
You’ll work through each section, with interactive lessons and tutor-led exercises along the way, as well as our practical lessons and live drop-in sessions.
Each main topic is tested with a quiz and each main subject area ends with a written test which you will receive feedback on from your tutor.
Exam practice and past papers will also be completed with feedback given.
Exams:
Our course cover the material for both the lower and higher versions of the exams. When it’s time to sign-up for your exams, we will help you decide which to choose to optimise your chances of the best possible result for you.
If you’re taking the Lower exams, you’ll do papers P1, P3 and P6.
If you’re taking the Higher exams, you’ll do papers P2, P4 and P6.
Exams must be booked and paid for separately at an exam centre near you – we will help you arrange this. The price of exams depends upon the centre chosen and this cost is not included in the price of our course (you should allow for around £250-300 per iGCSE course).
Paper P1 : Multiple Choice (core subjects). 45 minutes written exam. 40 X 4 option multiple choice questions. 30% of your result.
Paper P2: Multiple Choice (extended). 45 minutes written exam. 40 X 4 option multiple choice questions. 30% of your result.
Paper P3: Theory (core). 1 hr 15 minutes written exam. Short answer and structured questions. 80 questions. 50% of your result.
Paper P4: Theory (extended). 1 hr 15 minutes written exam. Short answer and structured questions. 80 questions. 50% of your result.
Paper P6: Alternative to Practical. 1 hr 40 minutes written exam. 20% of your result.
Course designed to be studied at home
The iGCSE course is the exact equivalent of the GCSE course, but is designed to be studied at home with practicals theory being tested as opposed to classroom-based exercises.
This typically makes studying Science outside the classroom difficult, but our unique partnership with STEM Kits by Post, which allows you to learn about scicnce subjects sent to you to experiment with at home, led by your online tutor, means that these concepts are much easier understood – that’s what is unique about our course!

Microscope/Cells
- Use a basic microscope to investigate cellular structures, the difference between animal and plant cells, and create your own sample slides.
Seed Germination and Plant Growth
- Investigate ideal germination and plant growth conditions
Bacteria
- Grow bacterial cultures, investigate the effect of antibacterial sprays and hand sanitisers.
- Observe bacteria growth under UV light.
Newton's Laws and Forces
- Carry-out a number of experiments to demonstrate Newton’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd laws

Entry Requirements:
There are no entry qualifications but a basic understanding of KS2/KS3 Science is expected. Our course is designed for students 14+ and usually takes 1-2 years, with exams taken in May/June. You can start the course at any time in the year and work at your own pace with encouragement from your tutor.
